The main reason I instinctively latched onto staffing was my persistent admiration for people. I may well spend hours reading resumes, sending introduction emails/phone calls, meeting candidates. Most importantly, hiring them and watching them positively develop.
Attaining your ideal job requires:
• Relevant experience, or relentless dedication to perform
• Referrals/references that reflect your commitment
• Successfully conquering the interview (my favorite!)
Here are few of my preferred interview questions, paired with my experience, for championing your next interview.
If you were a brand, which brand would you be and why?
Of course, you have done your homework; therefore you already have an example relevant to the organization. Choose an example that you connect to, that also relates to the job or client directory. Do not lie. You applied for the position because you were intrigued and believe you are the best candidate for the job, therefore you already relate to the company’s values, mission and brands.
Tell me about a brand that you think is an example of GREAT marketing and why?
Your personalized answer sets you apart from the rest. Identify one of your favorite brands and its positioning as well as target market. Tell the interviewer whom the brand is trying to reach. Discuss in detail. Paint the picture. Tell a story! This question differs from the first. This is your chance to personalize and market yourself! Your unique answer differentiates YOU from other candidates.
Give an example of a time you had to respond to an unhappy manager, co-worker, or consumer?
Talk about a placid, however significant, example and spin it to be a positive learning experience. Collaborating is key; therefore describe the resolution of the conflict and the positive effect on the relationship and/or business outcome. No one is perfect. Dealing with conflict in a professional manor with an encouraging outcome, demonstrates your team playing awareness.
Tell me something about yourself that I did not know from reading your resume.
Think of a skill or talent that did not fit into your employment history, which is distinctive and reveals something intriguing about your personality, or past experience. This does not have to be work related however it does have to be relevant to the position you are applying for.
Why do you want to work for us?
Show excitement for the company! Your answer needs to prove that you have given the organization much thought and that you are not sending out resumes to every single job opportunity. Talk about your positive observation of the company in market, or discuss your adoration for the brands they work on. Again, do not lie. Your answer must also be in-line with your own personal values and achievements.
Why should we hire you?
This is your chance to WOW with your key features. Pick 3 of your most impressive strengths and give each strength a concise noteworthy example. Your 3 points should include a combination of the following examples:
• Technical skills
• Awards or accolades
• A key work accomplishment
• Your most proud industry experience
There is an overabundance of interview questions out there. One thing for certain; given that research has surely been done on you, return the favor by studying the company, practicing answers, so that you undoubtedly project confidence and enthusiasm during the interview.
